That thou art blamed shall not be thy defect (Sonnet 70)
That thou art blamed shall not be thy defect, For slander's mark was ever yet the fair, The ornament of beauty is suspect A crow that flies in heaven's sweetest air. So thou be good, slander doth but approve Thy worth the greater, being wooed of time; For canker-vice the sweetest buds doth love, And thou present'st a pure unstainčd prime Thou hast passed by the ambush of young days Either not assailed, or victor being charged; Yet this thy praise cannot be so thy praise, To tie up ebvy vermore enlarged. If some suspect of ill masked not shy show, Then thou alone kingdoms of hearts shouldst owe.

Evening star
'Twas noontide of summer, And mid-time of night; And stars, in their orbits, Shone pale, thro' the light Of the brighter, cold moon, 'Mid planets her slaves, Herself in the Heavens, Her beam on the waves. I gazed awhile On her cold smile; Too cold- too cold for me- There pass'd, as a shroud, A fleecy cloud, And I turned away to thee, Proud Evening Star, In thy glory afar, And dearer thy beam shall be; For joy to my heart Is the proud part Thou bearest in Heaven at night, And more I admire Thy distant fire, Than that colder, lowly light.
